Welcome all. My hope for this blog is that it will become a one stop shop for all news relating to philly sports. We'll mainly be focusing on the big four, but other topics will definitely be explored. Stay tuned for updates and future changes as we get moving along here.
Andre Johnson
By now, all Eagles fans are aware that Andre 'The Hitman' Johnson will not be suspended for Thursday night's game. First, I think this is definitely the wrong decision by the NFL. For weeks we have heard only about player safety and the need to cut down on helmet to helmet hits. Now we are expected to sit back and watch as two players rip each other's helmets off and take swings at each other's heads. There is obviously a disconnect here.
The national media seems to be jumping on the fact that Johnson wasn't suspended because the Texans play on Thursday night (on NFL network no less). However, this makes little sense as the game already features Michael Vick. Seemingly this is enough to attract the casual viewer. I'd maintain that the lack of a suspension for Johnson was the result of Cortland Finnegan's reputation around the league, and the fact that there are probably a bunch of receivers who would have all acted similarly.
Either way, I think the impact of Johnson playing will be immense, especially given Asante Samuel's lingering knee injury. Trevard Lindley was routinely burned by Earl 'Who?' Bennett on Sunday and the Texans will surely exploit Lindley if he is forced to start.
